MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. - In its second dual-meet action of the campaign, the No. 11 North Carolina women's swimming and diving team and the No. 16 North Carolina men's swimming and diving team fell to the University of Minnesota at the Minnesota Aquatics Center. The No. 9 Golden Gopher women beat the Heels 208.5-165 while the No. 10 Minnesota men won 218-146.

The Tar Heels had a much better performance on the second day of competition after experiencing a significant deficit after Friday.

The following Tar Heels were event winners Saturday:

Women's 1-meter diving: Erika Matheis, 281.32 points (personal best)

Men's 3-meter diving: Ryan Funderburk, 393.38 (equals his school record)

Women's 200-Yard Freestyle Relay: 1st Place, Kelsey Morrissy, Rebecca Kane, Eliza Butts, Megan Steeves

Men's 400-Yard Individual Medley: Tyler Harris, 3:54.14

Women's 100-Yard Freestyle: Kelsey Morrissy, 50.62

Women's 200-Yard Backstroke: Ashley Howard, 1:59.68 (just off personal best of 1:59.35)

Men's 100-Yard Butterfly: Tommy Wyher, 49.83 (won by .01 of a second)

Women's 500-Yard Freestyle: Whitney Sprague, 4:49.57

Women's 400-Yard Freestyle Relay: Megan Steeves, Rebecca Kane, Eliza Butts, Kelsey Morrissy, 3:24.29

Carolina will swim next Saturday at Duke in a Carlyle Cup competition. The Carlyle Cup is sponsored by Carlyle and Company and goes each year to the winner of the all sports competition between the two schools. There will be 2 points awarded in the meet, one each for men and women. UNC leads the current Carlyle Cup chase 4.0-1.5 points.
