Carolina Divers Make Big Splash at ECU Invite

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Carolina divers went head-to-head against the East Carolina Pirates in their season openers Friday afternoon at the East Carolina diving invitional. The meet was performed in relay format with each entry including one male and one female diver on each entry. Each diver completed five dives, a total of 10 for the team.

The Tar Heels took the top three spots with just over seven points separating the top three teams. UNC seniors Laura Filip and Ryan Funderburk claimed the title at 455.85 just edging junior Alex Kenley and senior Erika Matheis who had 453.75. David Solarz, a sophomore, and transfer Erica Schiffler were third.

Carolina returns to action for its 2007-08 dual meet opener Wednesday at Athens, Ga. against traditional national power University of Georgia.

Two divers per relay, each doing 5 dives each - 10 total dives.
