AUSTIN, TEXAS - Sophomore Jessi Perruquet and senior Katie Hathaway set school records Friday night at the 2002 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Texas.

North Carolina stands in 14th place after the second day of the championships with 69 total points.

Perruquet finished third in the 200-yard freestyle, the best individual finish by a Tar Heel women's swimmer at the NCAA meet since 1998 when Richelle Fox was the NCAA runnerup in the 100-yard butterfly. Perruquet finished third in a school record time of 1:45.65.

Meanwhile, Hathaway won the consolation final in the 100-yard breaststroke with a school record time of 1:00.89. Hathaway finished ninth overall in the event.

The Tar Heels finished 12th in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:41.91. The relay consisted of junior Christy Watkins (25.78), Hathaway (27.98), sophomore Kelly Weeks (25.71) and Perruquet (22.44).

Carolina finished 13th in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:18.21. Weeks led off the relay in 1:52.11, followed by Hathaway (1:48.85), Watkins (1:51.31) and Perruquet (1:45.94).
