Perruquet Finished Third In 200 Freestyle At NCAA Meet

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - University of North Carolina senior Jessi Perruquet added another chapter to her remarkable swimming career as a Tar Heel as the Danville, Pa. native finished third Friday night in the 200-meter freestyle at the 2004 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. This year's meet, being held at Texas A&M University, is being conducted in short course meters. A year ago, Perruquet won the co-championship in the 200-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships when it was held as a meet in short course yards. North Carolina is tied for 26th place in the team standings after the second day of the meet (14 total events) with 16 points. Virginia and Houston are also tied for 26th. Perruquet qualified sixth in the preliminaries with a time of 1:58.43 but she rallied in the evening place third with a time of 1:57.96. Perruquet thus earned All-America status for the fourth successive year, the third year with first-team All-America honors.
The meet concludes Saturday with five Tar Heels competing in individual events.
