Fox Finishes Ninth At Zone Diving Championships

LEXINGTON, KY. - Junior Jon Fox led the University of North Carolina diving contingent on the first day of the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships as the Neenah, Wis., native posted a ninth place finish in three-meter diving.

Fox was the only Tar Heel to final on the first day of the competition which runs through Sunday at the University of Kentucky.

Fox finished 16th in the preliminaries of the event with a score of 282.70 but he dove exceptionally well with his six optional dives in the finals to move up to ninth place with 587.75 points.

In the women's one-meter event on Friday, freshman Mandi Arak finished 21st with a score of 229.85 and sophomore Erika Matheis placed 33rd with a score of 196.15.

In men's three-meter, two other Tar Heels competed in addition to Fox. Sophomore Ryan Funderburk finished 28th with a score of 243.60 while senior Ryan Matuszak placed 32nd with a score of 240.70.
