The University of North Carolina Fencing team will compete this weekend in the Penn State Open.

Coach Ron Miller notes that "every year the Penn State Open is one of the strongest of the national meets the Tar Heels will compete in where the focus is individual competition. Only the fencers who we think will do well win make the trip."

Those fencers include Matt McMurray, Steven Piantadosi and Ivona Puszkarczuk competing in men's and women's foil. Also, Jen Hunt, Liz Rainbolt, Wesley Newkirk, Bryan Jones, Bucky Harris will compete in women's and men's Sabre and Laura Hayes and Seth Axford are among the Tar Heels fencers who will participate in the women's and men's Epee competition.
