GREENSBORO, N.C. - ACC Commissioner John Swofford announced Thursday that the University of North Carolina placed nine former Tar Heel fencers on the Atlantic Coast Conference 50th Anniversary Fencing team.

Over the years, thirteen UNC fencers have achieved All-American status. Four Carolina fencers were U.S. National Fencing Team members while two Tar Heels were Olympians.

Tar Heels selected to the top 50 team include:

Crowmartie, Individual ACC Foil Champion- 1972, Chadwick B. Hilton, Individual ACC Epee Champion- 1971, Anthony J. Keane III, Individual ACC Sabre Champion- 1976, 1977, Alan L. Knight, Individual Epee Champion- 1974, 1976, James M. Krause, Individual ACC Foil Champion- 1973, 1974, 1975, David G. Lynn, Individual ACC Epee Champion- 1972.
