UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -

The UNC fencing team had a mix of performances this past weekend at the Penn State Open. The best Tar Heel outings of the event came on Saturday as Jennifer Sawicki finished ninth in sabre competition and on Sunday as Bobby Ziechmann finished tenth also in sabre competition. Sawicki, a freshman from Washington, D.C., made it to the table of 16, however, was defeated by Alexa Weingarden of Harvard. Ziechmann, a Charlotte native, also made the round of 16, yet, was defeated by Patrick Ghattas of Notre Dame.

North Carolina's initial dual meet of the 2006-07 campaign comes when the Tar Heels travel to the New City to compete in the NYU duals on the weekend of December 2nd.
