Carolina Fencers Tie For 25th At NCAA Championships

WALTHAM, MASS. - The University of North Carolina fencing team capped its 2004 season as it gained a tie for 25th place at the 2004 NCAA Fencing Championships hosted by Brandeis University. Coach Ron Miller's team finished in a tie with Tufts University while Ohio State University captured its first ever NCAA title in fencing. The Buckeyes finished the meet with 194 team points to easily outdistance runnerup Penn State which had 160 points. Notre Dame finished third with 153 points. UNC and Tufts each finished with 11 points to tie for 25th.
Carolina had two individual fencers compete at the meet. Freshman Courtney Krolikoski finished in 23rd place in the women's epee competition while junior Wesley Newkirk took 22nd place in the men's sabre standings.
