UNC Fencers Compete at Duke Duals.

Feb. 14, 2005

Both the UNC men's and women' fencing teams competed this past weekend at the Duke duals. Results were mixed as the men finished with two wins and three losses while the women finished with one win and three losses. The results were disapointing, however, assistant coach Josh Webb stated "the men did show progess and grew as a team." During the Air Force meet the men's team was down 2-7 and eventually tied the match at 11-11. The meet was decided when freshman epee fencer Benton Heimsath, down 2-4, came back and won by one touch in over time. Other Tar Heel fencers of note include sophomore Steven Piantadosi who went 10-5 and junior Detra Euland who went 6-5. For the season, the UNC men's team record is 18-9 and the women are 13-14.
