Tennis - 5/11/2008 UNC Advances to Round of SixteenThe No. 12 seed North Carolina Tar Heels fulfilled their expectations as one of the top 16 seeds in the NCAA Championships on Sunday, defeating Duke 4-2 to advance to Tulsa, Okla. for the "Sweet Sixteen" of college men's tennis. It is the second time in the last three years UNC has advanced to the Final 16 of the NCAA Championships and the sixth time it has done so since the tournament went to a team format in 1977. Lacrosse - 5/11/2008 Tar Heels Upset Virginia, 11-7Corey Donohoe scored five goals and Megan Bosica had two goals and three assists as the unseeded University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team upset fourth-seeded Virginia, 11-7, on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon at Klockner Stadium in the NCAA Tournament first round. With the win, Carolina improves to 13-6 this season. Virginia fell to 14-4 with the defeat. The Tar Heels dropped to 42-9 and 20-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the loss, while the Cavaliers improved to 34-17 and 14-13 in conference play. (more)M. The Mids improve to 10-5 on the season and will host either Hofstra or defending NCAA champion Johns Hopkins next Saturday in the NCAA quarterfinals at Annapolis, Md. Starter Lisa Norris allowed just one run in her six innings of work as she struck out four, while Jennifer Jacobs paced the offense with a pair of singles.
