UNC Advances to Round of Sixteen

The No. 12 seed North Carolina Tar Heels fulfilled their expectations as one of the top 16 seeds in the NCAA Championships on Sunday, defeating Duke 4-2 to advance to Tulsa, Okla. for the "Sweet Sixteen" of college men's tennis. It is the second time in the last three years UNC has advanced to the Final 16 of the NCAA Championships and the sixth time it has done so since the tournament went to a team format in 1977.  (more)

Tar Heels Upset Virginia, 11-7

Corey Donohoe scored five goals and Megan Bosica had two goals and three assists as the unseeded University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team upset fourth-seeded Virginia, 11-7, on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon at Klockner Stadium in the NCAA Tournament first round. With the win, Carolina improves to 13-6 this season. Virginia fell to 14-4 with the defeat. (more)

No. 24 Cavaliers Take Rain-Shortened Game From No. 2 Tar Heels

A two-run single by Jeremy Farrell gave No. 24 Virginia a 5-4 lead over No. 2 North Carolina in the bottom of the sixth inning before heavy rains suspended play and eventually forced an end to a weather-shortened game Sunday at Davenport Field. The Tar Heels dropped to 42-9 and 20-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the loss, while the Cavaliers improved to 34-17 and 14-13 in conference play. (more)

North Carolina Upset By Navy In NCAA First Round

Unseeded Navy led for all but 4:21 of the match as the Midshipmen defeated fourth-seeded North Carolina 8-7 Saturday night in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship at Fetzer Field before a crowd of 1,735. The Mids improve to 10-5 on the season and will host either Hofstra or defending NCAA champion Johns Hopkins next Saturday in the NCAA quarterfinals at Annapolis, Md. (more)

Softball - 5/10/2008

No. 13 Tar Heels Fall 1-0 In ACC Tournament

A solo home run by NC State's Kristine Becholdt in the bottom of the second inning would provide the lone run of Saturday's ACC Tournament semi-final game in College Park, Md. as the Wolfpack (31-26) claimed a 1-0 win over top-seeded North Carolina (50-10-1). Starter Lisa Norris allowed just one run in her six innings of work as she struck out four, while Jennifer Jacobs paced the offense with a pair of singles. The No. 13 Tar Heels will now await their NCAA Tournament fate which will be released at 10 p.m. on Sunday and televised on ESPNU. (more)
