Bridgette Mitchell and Keturah Jackson scored 12 points apiece, and No. 8 Duke routed No. 18 North Carolina 79-51 on Monday night to bounce back from its first Atlantic Coast Conference loss. Krystal Thomas had 11 points for the first-place Blue Devils (19-4, 7-1). They never trailed and dominated nearly every stat category - their 52-28 rebounding advantage included a 35-12 edge in the second half - in avoiding its first ACC losing streak in a decade. She'la White and Laura Broomfield had 10 points each to lead the slumping Tar Heels (16-6, 4-4).

Swimming & Diving. Pesacreta Named Progress Energy Performer Of The Week

Marie Pesacreta broke the Koury Natatorium record in the 200 individual medley to earn Progress Energy Tar Heel of the Week honors for Feb. 1-7, 2010. A sophomore swimmer from Chapel Hill, Pesacreta posted three career-best times over the weekend in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard IM and the 400-yard IM. Both her 200-yard IM and 400-yard IM were NCAA "B" qualifying times.

Swimming & Diving. Carolina Men And Women Compete In First-Ever Triangle College Cup

Sixteen Tar Heel men and women swimmers competed in the Triangle College Cup at Koury Natatorium this past weekend February 6-7. The Carolina swimmers achieved 14 career best times and five NCAA "B" qualifying swims over the two-day meet which they shaved and rested for.

The North Carolina men's fencing team went 1-3 Saturday and the Tar Heel women finished with the same record Sunday at the Duke Fencing Home Meet, held at the Blue Devils' Card Gym.

M. Tennis. No. 3 Ohio State Hands No. 22 UNC Second Loss of Season

Third-ranked Ohio State dealt No. 22 North Carolina its second loss of the 2010 season Sunday. The Buckeyes defeated the Tar Heels 6-1, as Ryan Noble won the lone UNC team point in singles play.

North Carolina (16-5, 4-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) will look to get back on track against a familiar opponent when the Tar Heels face rival Duke Monday night at 7 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. UNC dropped its second straight game Thursday night, an 80-69 setback at Miami. Duke is also coming off a loss, a 61-57 decision at Boston College on Thursday. Carolina is ranked No. 9 in the AP poll and No. 15 in the coaches' poll. Duke is ranked No. 6 in both polls.

W. Tennis. No. 11 Tar Heels Improve To 7-0 With Pair Of Wins

No. 11 North Carolina improved to 7-0 on the season with a pair of wins over Wisconsin and Elon Saturday at the Cone-Kenfield Indoor Tennis Center. Carolina topped the Badgers, 6-1, before returning later in the day to drop Elon, 7-0. Sanaz Marand, Jelena Durisic and Zoe De Bruycker each won two singles matches to lead the Tar Heels in their final matches before next weekend's ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis.

M. Lacrosse. Wood Leads Tar Heels Past Dolphins In Season Opener

North Carolina's fourth-ranked men's lacrosse team opened its 2010 season by posting a methodical 11-5 win over the host Jacksonville Dolphins at D.B. Milne Field. The game marked the first in the JU program's history as a varsity program as a crowd of 4,762 packed the stadium.

Swimming & Diving. Carolina Men and Women Claim ACC Victories On Senior Night

The Tar Heel swimmers and divers hosted the Wolfpack from N.C. State at Koury Natatorium Friday night for Senior Night. Both the men and women came away with wins Friday night against their rivals from Raleigh. The women won with a score of 185-111 and the men 182-111 in the final dual meets of the season for North Carolina. Carolina's men finished the year 10-1 overall and 6-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The women capped a 6-1 ACC campaign and finished up with a 9-2 overall mark.

Football. Lucas: Blue Zone Blitz Begins

Signing Day wasn't the only big Carolina football news this week. In the fall, a new project was announced for the east end zone of Kenan Stadium. Now, because of the response from Tar Heel fans, there's a chance for that project to jump onto an accelerated timeline.

Dustin Ackley added yet another honor to his stellar three-year career at North Carolina Thursday, when the Walnut Cove, N.C., native was named Baseball America's Player of the Decade. The premier baseball-only publication recognized three starting pitchers, three outfielders, one two-way or "utility" player and one player at every other position for their all-decade squad. We selected the team and our decade award winners by sending out ballots to every Division I head coach - 150 of which responded.

North Carolina will play its second road game in four days in College Park against Maryland. A Maryland win would help the Terrapins keep pace with Duke for first place. A Carolina loss would tie them for last place. Carolina holds a 114-56 edge in the series between the two teams but has lost five of the last seven games in College Park. Maryland has won three of the last four games in the series.
