Wayne Walden joined the University of North Carolina academic advisory staff in the summer of 2003 after spending 16 years in the student support services office at the University of Kansas.

At Carolina, Walden coordinates academic support for men's basketball and men's and women's swimming and diving. He oversees scheduling, registration, structured study halls, tutorial services and progress toward degrees for the student-athletes in those programs.

Walden was Director of Degree and Career Counseling at Kansas and worked with the men's basketball, baseball, tennis and volleyball programs. He was also an instructor in KU's School of Education, where he taught a course designed to help seniors make the transition to post-college experiences.

Walden is a native of Topeka, Kan. He graduated from KU in 1984 with a degree in business administration and earned his master's in counseling psychology from Kansas in 1990.
