The Guest Speaker series for the Academic Team Captain program kicked off its spring 2005 segment on Feb. 23. Eric Montross, former UNC and NBA basketball player, came to speak to the group about his experiences as a Carolina student-athlete and how those experiences continue to impact his life today.

Montross coordinates the Father's Day Basketball Camp each year, with all the proceeds going to improve facilities at the UNC Children's Hospital. He stressed to the group the importance of using their roles as Academic Team Captains to help others, particularly their freshman teammates. He also shared his experiences working with the Children's Hospital and encouraged the group to get involved with community service. Montross was very engaging and candid and his presentation received high praise.
