Hansbrough Wins ACC Male Athlete Of The Year Award

Tyler Hansbrough, the consensus National Player of the Year in men's basketball, is the 2007-08 Atlantic Coast Conference Male Athlete of the Year, the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association announced Tuesday. Hansbrough will receive the McKevlin Award, named for former News and Observer sports editor Anthony J. McKevlin.  (more)

Nicks, Tate Named To Preseason All-ACC Team

North Carolina wide receiver Hakeem Nicks and kick returner Brandon Tate have been selected to the 2008 preseason all-conference team in voting by media attending the annual Atlantic Coast Conference Football Kickoff at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga. (more)

Forbes Promoted To Associate Head Coach

After spending seven successful seasons on the University of North Carolina baseball staff, Scott Forbes has been promoted to associate head coach, head coach Mike Fox announced Wednesday. Following a stint in Chapel Hill as an assistant from 1999-2002, Forbes has served as the Tar Heels' pitching coach for the last three seasons and has helped guide Carolina to three straight College World Series appearances. (more)

Dorrance Previews 2008 Campaign

North Carolina's season opener in women's soccer is only 32 days away when the Tar Heels host Charlotte at Fetzer Field at 7 p.m. on August 22. UNC head coach Anson Dorrance sat down with TarHeelBlue.com Monday to talk about the upcoming season and also share his thoughts about his upcoming induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame on August 2. Dorrance also shared his thoughts about the slew of Olympians with UNC ties who will be competing next month in Beijing. (more)

Carolina Golfer Sydney Crane Qualifies For U.S. Amateur

Sydney Crane, a rising senior on the University of North Carolina women's golf team, has qualified for the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur. She fired a 72 at Sapona Country Club in Lexington, N.C. on July 9 to qualify for this year's Amateur which will be played August 4-10 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. (more)
